More safer cycling in Lambeth

Lambeth are continuing to deliver their Transport Strategy with effective and impactful schemes. It’s great to see.

Autumn 2023 saw the completion of the Loughborough Road cycleway as well as Trial Low Traffic Neighbourhoods in Brixton Hill and Streatham Wells and five more School Streets. The Brixton Hill LTN seems to have bedded in quickly though Streatham Wells has suffered early problems from local roadworks, burst water mains and vandalism.

As of February 2024 Lambeth have confirmed the West Dulwich Healthy Neighbourhood works which should address problematic rat running around Rosendale Road, as well as Phase 3 of the Rosendale Road cycleway, adding another 500m south of the A205 South Circular (though still no date for TfL to address the A205 junction – Lambeth are building a temporary scheme here that uses existing crossings).

We’ve been feeding back issues with the earlier phases of Rosendale Road, where bollards have been repeatedly or removed or damaged by vehicles so it’s good to see a more substantial kerb separating the cycleway from parking and the road on this next phase.

Lastly, TfL designs are complete for the Streatham Hill cycleway and it should be going to statutory consultation shortly with the start of construction still supposedly this spring (2024).
