The Ferndale low traffic neighbourhood will be made permanent meaning the streets north of Acre Lane will continue to be safer and healthier for people who live in the area or who walk and cycle through.
We are pleased to see more areas benefiting from improvements for people walking and cycling. As well as safer streets for residents, the Ferndale area provides a safer route between Clapham or the Brixton Hill side streets and Brixton town centre and towards Stockwell.

The Ferndale low traffic neighbourhood started as part of the Brixton liveable neighbourhood improvements that were launched in 2019. After a trial period and local events there was extensive consultation ending in a formal consultation earlier this year.
“The proposals to make Ferndale Low Traffic Neighbourhood permanent are very welcome.
“Throughout the trial phase we have seen the level of vehicle traffic reduce, however we want to be clear in saying there is still more to do across Lambeth.
“We are committed to listening to feedback to build on the success of the LTN in the future.
“The current LTNs alone will not solve traffic issues across the borough so we are looking at making further improvements in neighbourhoods and with our partners at TfL on main roads.
“We believe we can all do our bit to raise air quality by leaving our cars at home for short trips and consider walking or cycling instead.”
Cllr Rezina Chowdhury, Cabinet Member for Sustainable Lambeth and Clean Air
Now the scheme is being made permanent the traffic filters will be upgraded to improve the area – work has been going on to do this in the Oval-Stockwell and Railton low traffic neighbourhoods which we made permanent early this year.
