Good and bad in TfL’s new map

It is good to see TfL’s map which has been delivered to households across Lambeth showing a growing network of Low Traffic Neighbourhoods and Cycleways in Lambeth including the future Brixton Hill and Streatham Wells LTNs.

However, it’s worrying that significant sections of the cycleway shown have not been built yet.

For example, Rosendale Road has been approved but there is not yet a date for construction, and the first, trial, improvements to the Streatham Common to Brockwell Park section of the planned Streatham to Peckham route were only announced on 18 October.

Hostile rat runs

We’d also question Cavendish Road and Ellison Road being shown as completed sections of Q5 – they are not signposted and any changes that were made did not improve the cycling level of service – they remain hostile rat runs that many of us avoid riding on. These roads do not meet Lambeth’s healthy route criteria as they are and further interventions will be needed to those so far announced.
