Stockwell Gardens and Slade Gardens LTNs

We’re pleased to see the start of the engagement process for two more Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (which Lambeth originally announced in October 2022):

Stockwell Gardens LTN

Slade Gardens LTN

However, it looks like it will be over 18 months before any trial is started.

The schemes implemented during 2020 demonstrated that there is no need for such a lengthy process – especially since schemes are trialed with temporary materials that can be altered. It seems absurd to have returned to such long timelines that, all evidence seems to show, do nothing to reduce loud opposition from a minority, nor (based consultations for Brixton Hill and Streatham Wells) lead to substantive changes to the provisional designs.

Southwark’s extensive consultations on Dulwich Village did not stop a small, but loud and angry, opposition group that has continued to claim there was no consultation or support long after the local councillors were returned with increased majorities and the scheme has been made permanent.

Lambeth’s strategy and policy lead the way but we will continue to push for faster and more efficient delivery (it’s been over a year since a minor change to the Ferndale LTN was first proposed and it has still not been implemented).

Despite being a long way off, we encourage you to show your support for these to future LTNs at each stage of the process.
